THE PERSON BEHIND HP CULT
JOSEPH
POTAK.
Builder. Author. Racer. A hands-on perspective on performance, products, and the teams behind them.

Joseph Potak is an automotive performance specialist, author, and consultant based in Georgetown, Texas. His background spans hands-on technical work, research and development, product development, and senior leadership in the performance aftermarket.
He works across the practical and organizational sides of a project: developing and testing ideas, managing teams and processes, planning industry events, and building business relationships. His approach starts with understanding how the engine, drivetrain, and vehicle work together—and asking the right questions before choosing parts.
Joseph’s books cover GM LS engine building, swaps, parts interchange, and fourth-generation Camaro and Firebird performance. He is the author of How to Build and Modify GM LS-Series Engines, GM LS-Series Engines: The Complete Swap Guide, 2nd Edition, and 1993–2002 Camaro and Firebird Performance Handbook. He coauthored LS Engine Parts Interchange: 1997–2020 with Jefferson Bryant.
His background includes Texas Speed and Performance and the LS1Tech community. Away from the desk, racing, off-roading, and personal builds keep him connected to the enthusiasts who use the products and information he helps develop.
That curiosity extends beyond horsepower. Reworking an auction-bought 2012 Mercedes Sprinter into an adventure van pushed him into interior design, materials, storage, and electrical-system integration. For Joseph, learning new skills and refining the build are as rewarding as the finished result.
HP Cult brings together that experience: consulting, writing, personal projects, and his ongoing work with LSwhat and Torque.
